Higher Education Tasks and Functions


According to the World Declaration on Higher Education for the Twenty-First Century: Vision and Action, issued by the World Conference on Higher Education held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris in 1998, with the participation of most member states, including Sudan:

  1. Developing, innovating, and disseminating knowledge through research and study as part of its mission to serve society by providing expert guidance to assist communities in their cultural, social, and economic development.
  2. Encouraging and fostering scientific and technological research, as well as research in the fields of social sciences and creative arts.

Establishment of the Scientific Research Administration (2008)

  1. Created in 2008 to operate within the Office of the Vice President for Scientific Research and Cultural Relations.
  2. Article 19(1) of the University Law states: The President (University President) shall have a Vice President for Scientific Research and Cultural Relations, appointed by the Board of Trustees in consultation with the President, and shall be accountable to the President for performance in scientific research and cultural relations.
  3. The Scientific Research Administration collaborates with various faculties to coordinate research procedures across different disciplines taught at the university, as well as postgraduate research, advanced undergraduate studies, and graduation projects.


The Department of Scientific Research contributes to the activities of the “Scientific Technology Forum”, which presents scientific seminars and lectures on scientific treatments of issues related to economic and social development in the country. The forum is sponsored by scientists, experts, university professors, students, decision-makers, media, and interested citizens.
