Libraries

In 1995 UST library was first established in Omdurman (Mulazmeen) to be developed then with the establishment of two big digital libraries in the engineering building complex and the medical science building complex. The libraries are well-equipped with the necessary appliances and facilities and are linked to all modern networks. In addition to local databases, the library has subscripted in international databases such as (OCLC. EBSCO.ZADNET). Moreover, a good number of digital references have been purchased and they include rare books and compact discs which are sources for internal use. Taganah is the first university in Sudan to apply the HORIZON system which proved, in advanced countries, to be the basis for the automation of libraries in the twenty first century. The libraries have followed the upgrading of the college into a university and have developed in accordance with this change as follows:

1. The Engineering Building Digital Library.

  1. The Medical Building Complex Digital Library.
  2. The Museum Library.
  3. The Administrative Science Library
  4. The Computer Science & Information Technology Library
  5. The Postgraduate Studies Library.
    The libraries have been modernized after the establishment of the Administrative building complex and the computer science & Information Technology building complex according to the same system applied by the university plans and concerns. The library, though recently established, includes about forty thousand books in different topics, subjects, titles and; in addition to a good number of periodicals; which are provided by different organizations such as the World Health Organization besides a huge number of compact discs including periodicals and electronic books. The Library Objectives the Library is the beating heart of the university and the main pillar in the educational process. It bears the same objectives of the university and its mission is part and parcel of that of the university which mainly depends on scientific research and the service of the community. The library objectives could be summarized as follows:
    1/ provide books, references scientific periodicals that support the educational process
    2/ provide services to users form within the university and without such as lending, research in local and international databases and the internet services.
    3/ qualify employees through training courses.
    4/ link the library with the national, regional and international information networks
    5/ provide technical advisory in establishing digital libraries
The Library services the libraries provide the following services:

1/ the automated index which provides access to traditional books and references in addition to electronic books, electronic encyclopedias and complete texts through various means: a- Using Horizon from inside the library through (Open Public. OPAC Access Catalogue. b- Using Horizon from outside the library through (The Internet Public Access Catalogue IPAC). Through the search access is facilitated to complete bibliographies of books in addition to a comprehensive summary; besides the full texts provided by the compact discs in the disc server.

2/ The EBISCO service a database for electronic academic periodicals which is regularly updated. This started as compact discs in the year 2000 and has then been transferred to the direct link

3/ providing access to the internet: the university website (www.ust.edu.sd) could give full information about the library contents and services.
4/ photocopying for research purposes
5/ Providing Comprehensive bibliographical services.
6/Facilitating elective search in different fields, from different sources, in different languages, and sending them to users emails in addition to any updates.

7/ linking the network to lecture halls, section heads offices and staff facilitates various library services such as using compact discs, having access to the library database, selecting the required references and other sources.

8/ Instructing library users.
