Civil Engineering Dept.

  1. Prelude

This Dept. is considered as one of the most modern engineering departments. It has recently been approved to add a new fundamental branch of engineering to the engineering college in the University of Science & Technology to meet the strong need for efficient engineers to confront the wide development movement in the country.

Concentration has been allocated to this specialty in regard to arming the students with the ammunition of knowledge that qualifies them for understanding & establishing the necessary specifications to design & construct the infrastructure of roads, bridges & buildings;  for understanding & classifying the local & international material & machinery of construction & for training the students on the ideal use & programming of different sources as well as improving the environment in the field of sanitary engineering.

This means specialty, analysis & design of such concrete & steel structures as multi-story buildings, bridges & towers & means studying the extent of such buildings’ endurance for & resistance to burdens resulting from usage & the effect of the wind & earthquakes in addition to studying the characteristics of materials used in construction in accordance with  standard international specifications of building & the specifications of materials.

Eventually, the study is going to be crowned with a practical project reflecting the knowledge gained by the student from the total of studying materials. Following the attached studying plan, the College grants bachelor of honor in civil engineering; studying is carried out by a chosen group of qualified cadres in the different branches of this field.

  1. Chemical engineering:

Definition of chemical engineering & the role of chemical engineer:

Chemical engineering has been as a specialty for almost a hundred years. It may have found its way through chemical industries & petrol & oil industry which have both been the largest employer of chemical engineers. Chemical engineering  in the industry of oil & chemicals  is concerned, for instance, with petrol refining & producing large quantities of plastic, fertilizers & many other chemical materials in addition to producing chemical materials of special nature such as dyes & pharmaceutical  preparations.

We can look at chemical engineering as grouping between two edges; one of them is of science & the other is within the field of engineering knowledge.

The scientific part of chemical engineering is concerned with parting the complicated large systems into multiple branch systems that can be described & represented by basic chemical & physical operations.

The engineering part is concerned with designing, installing & operating of factories & laboratories (structures) of the capacity to produce desired products (basic & necessary) even if the knowledge of branch systems was not complete.

  1. Department of electronic systems & computer engineering

Prelude:

This Dept. was established in 1995. It grants the degree of bachelor of honor in five studying years. It has been the first Dept. established in the field of engineering in the University. It is considered as one of the most advanced, inveterate departments in the field of teaching the computer & electronic systems engineering whereas it teaches a number of the more advanced curricula according to international standards adopted by a number of the greater international universities, in addition to the practical application of the same curricula on the most modern advanced scientific machinery, making the student well prepared to enter practical life. The Dept. has graduated a large number of engineering cadres that have been of obvious importance in this field.

The Dept. has gained the trust of the Engineering Board with the latter’s members giving their approval regarding the recognized certificates of the Dept., which has also gained great praise from the honorable Board. In view of this trust, the graduated student is given the engineering number.

  1. Communication Engineering Dept.:

Prelude:

This is one of the recently structured departments within the group of the engineering college in the UST. It was established in 2004. The importance of this Dept. in this age emerges from the view of communication being the most important means upon which the world depends in contacting, knowledge & science. The saying about the world being a small village has only been realized following that huge leap in the world of communication. Not far from us is the advancement currently witnessed by the country in the field of communication whereas the curricula studied by the student in this Dept. have been established according to international standards regarded by the most famous international universities, particularly in first world countries. The curricula are taught by a number of national & foreign efficiencies  who carry high level scientific degrees, teaching assistants & laboratory supervisors. Furthermore, the curricula invite scientific experiments using the most modern laboratory machines, which is something that produces qualified cadres confidently ready to get involved in their practical life.

  1. Profile of the Dept. of Architecture & Reclamation Engineering

* Establishment of the Dept. of Architectural & Reclamation Engineering

It is known that the field of architecture & reclamation engineering enjoys great importance whereas both architecture & reclamation are of the most important measures specifying the extent of advancement of nations.

This Dept. is one of the first departments established in the Engineering College in the UST, whereas the Committee of Higher Private & Foreign Education passed on the 9th of November 1999 the establishment of bachelor of honor’s Dept. in the field of architecture & reclamation engineering in the UST.  The Dept. grants the bachelor of honor in architecture & reclamation through its five years’ study at the hands of an efficient cadre of teachers & auxiliaries supporting the aspect of specialty.

  • Goals of the Architecture & Reclamation Dept.:-

  • This Dept. endeavors to train the qualified architectural engineer to practice the profession with comprehensive designing efficiency, professionally, socially, technically, economically, legally & aesthetically, through his/her study program represented in 5 years that are worthy of graduating architectural engineers with high level of efficiency & capable of extrapolating innovated solutions for problems of the reclamation environment, of pushing with the wheel of development & reclamation, of carrying out scientific research & of sustainable education.

  • Further, the Dept. endeavors to contribute in the effect of scientific research & exchange of experiences in the field of architecture with the concerned authorities, locally & internationally.

Achievements of the Architecture & Reclamation Engineering Dept. (ARED):

  • Because the specialty of architecture & reclamation enjoys much importance, the Engineering College has adopted a strategy of clear goals & characteristics & allocated much interest to measures adopted in currently known universities, all in the course of granting the student much scientific ammunition to provides the student with a high level of efficiency in practicing his/her profession.

  • Within this context, the Dept. has been careful to revise its curricula, modernize them, endeavor continuously to provide efficient teachers & necessary auxiliaries for the Dept.’s program & to make a huge contribution in the field of scientific research.

Ambitions of the (ARED)

  • This Dept.’s ambition is to initiate varied programs in the field of architecture & reclamation for the degrees of bachelor & masters to contribute to the effect of knowledge & provide capable & effective cadres in the field of specialization.

  • There is also participation in the local & international, scientific & professional forums.

  1. Medical Engineering Dept.:

Prelude:

This Dept. is considered as one of the modern departments established within the departments of the Engineering College in the UST. This Dept. is one of four that teaches this field in Sudan, resulting from the fact that it is a recent subject & connected with  two of the most humanitarian sciences (medicine & engineering) whereas the computerization of medical machinery & equipment to change them from the traditional method to the electronic digital is one of the most important sciences & achievements attributed to the engineering field within the medical field that is equal in its importance to the purely medical scientific achievements.

This Dept. was established in 2004 to grant the degree of bachelor of honor. The Dept. follows the same methodology followed by the largest universities in first world countries teaching this field, whereas the Dept. teaches a number of curricula & laboratories according to internationally known standards , with the supervision of a number of national efficiencies, the presence of an appreciated number of carriers of high level degrees& the presence of teaching assistants & laboratory supervisors.

7. Engineering of electronic & computer systems:

Profile about the Dept.

This Dept. was established in 1995 to grant the degree of bachelor of honor in five studying years. This is the first Dept. established in the field of engineering in the University & is considered as one of the most advanced & inveterate in the field of teaching the computer & electronic systems; the Dept. teaches a number of more advanced curricula according to international standards followed by the largest international universities. Further, the Dept. practices the scientific application of these curricula on the most modern advanced scientific machines, which makes the student greatly prepared to enter into practical life. The Dept. has graduated a large number of qualified engineering cadres who shall be of great importance in this field.

With all members of the Engineering Board agreeing to all that is related to the internationally recognized degrees of the Dept., the Dept. has gained the trust of the former & gained marked praise from the honorable Board. In view of this trust, the student graduating from  this Dept. is given the engineering number.
