This is one of the University’s centers that takes interest in dedicating scientific research & academic studies to the service of society. The main task of the Center is to find solutions for malaria problems by way of executive field research. In its work plan, the Center accompanies national & regional programs of malaria-combating.
The main fields of research in the TCMR regarding malaria research are represented in studying malaria-transmitting mosquitoes, establishing the genetic partial markers of malaria transmitters & parasites & specifying the main pointers, laboratory types & field studies to study the biological differences between the species, developing to types the techniques of partial identification & monitoring the resistance of insecticides through spatial & temporal dimensions, evaluating, field-wise, the new insecticides & insecticide-impregnated mesquite nets, medicine & tools of parasite diagnosis.
The Center also plays a major role in capability building & resources-development through holding training courses & work sessions in the same field for students & researchers in & out of the University.
Further, the Center takes interest in the ways of malaria treatment, testing the possible medicine & the extent of the parasite’s response to treatment, medicine resistance & clinical follow-up to the treatment of malaria & its complications.
A group of good scholars from the faculty members of the University & of researchers from other national, regional & international universities & authorities, work in the Center making use of advanced expertise of the UST in carrying out research in the various fields of malaria as well as in carrying out field studies in areas where malaria is widespread, which all makes a suitable base for testing new technologies & helps in following up the development & combating of the disease.
